that's where bob redell is joining us live to tell us what's going on out there. >> reporter: yes, a three-story victorian that's converted into apartment units. there are six units behind me here and you can see some of the debris that the fire department had to pull out. the fire started in the entryway. if you look up on the steps where this man in the blue is walking down, in a wall heater. it spread from there to a couple of other entryways. what's remarkable is the fire department was able to keep the flames just confined to that location. so it did not actually -- the flames i'm talking about did not spread up, go vertical and affect the other units. what did go in the other units was a lot of smoke. so this building was charged with smoke quite some time but the fire department has cleared the building of smoke and is actually in the process, if they haven't already, letting the people who live here go back into their units. the only thing that needs to be repaired is the entryway, the common area for these people. there's 12 people who were evacuated and it was an alarm that
